Mother’s Day

Today was my 2nd Mother’s Day on the loop, but my 1st without my mother. I heard from all of my children and am so grateful that they made me a mother, but there was a nagging sadness that followed me all day.  I miss my mom - I miss having a mom to call when I have a good day or a bad day. I miss being someone’s daughter. I was lucky to have had her as long as I did and I know she is no longer suffering, but I still miss my mom.  Hug your mom or call her while you still have the chance…

I joked with a friend today that Tom took me to Fort Sumter for Mother’s Day and she quipped that I should take him to a spa for Father’s Day. I laughed so hard I snorted! Seriously, we did go to the fort this morning and I actually enjoyed it. We walked the short way to the tour boat boarding station, made the 30 minute ride across the bay to the fort, toured it and the museum and made the 30 minute ferry ride back to the marina side of the bay. I knew nothing of the story behind Fort Sumter or that it was where the Civil War started, so I learned a lot. Because it was cold and windy today we rode inside the tour boat and sat at a table with 2 other couples from St. Louis who were a lot of fun. They were finishing up a week long vacation and were not looking forward to returning to cooler temps!

We relaxed on the boat this afternoon, took Madison for a walk around the resort property and I made marina reservations for the first few days after we leave Steve and Kathy. We had margaritas and chicken enchiladas aboard How Sweet It Is and now we are back on Orion preparing for our departure from Charleston tomorrow. What a fun city it has been to visit!
