Barefoot Landing

Another beautiful, uneventful day of cruising and we are now in Myrtle Beach SC at Barefoot Marina. It is right on the ICW across from the entertainment district known as Barefoot Landing and has tourist shopping, breweries, restaurants/bars and a theater. We were actually in a looper parade of 4 boats planning to dock here, so we slowed down quite a bit to each take our turn getting help catching our lines. Steve and Kathy are backed into a slip across from us and we are side tied on the face dock - I was worried we would get rocked from passing boats, but most have been respectful of the no wake zone and it is wide enough here that it doesn’t seem to be a problem. We met another couple who started their loop from Jacksonville FL after moving onto their boat from California and they are only a month or so into it. It was so interesting talking to them and remembering how “green” we were and how much we didn’t know. We were able to give them several pointers for their journey, such as where to stay, what not to miss and what not to worry about.  They leave today and are moving pretty fast, so the reality is, we probably won’t run into them again but can follow them on NEBO, the tracking app we have.

After a nice lunch with the 4 other boaters, we puttered on the boat a bit and then went over to the entertainment district to poke around.  It’s a pretty long walk across a bridge, but the marina staff takes you over there on a pontoon and picks you up when you’re ready to return, so that makes it really convenient! We bought a Christmas ornament for our looper collection and nosed around a bit before riding back.

Steve and Kathy went out to dinner with friends from here so Tom and I took Madison for a walk around the area and relaxed for the evening. More things to explore in the morning….
