Busy Day
We packed a lot into today and it was a fun one! Tom and I walked to a bakery just off the Main Street at 6:30 this morning and had bagels and coffee. Then we came back to the boat, leashed Madison up and walked all over the neighborhoods beyond Main Street for almost an hour. I couldn’t get enough of the beautiful southern mansions and historic churches - pictures hardly do them justice. We came across 2 different cemeteries as well on our wandering. Madison was in her element and enjoyed all the new smells. Haha.
Steve and Kathy and Tom and I signed up for a carriage tour of the city and the horse-drawn carriage left just outside our marina so it was certainly handy. The tour was worth every penny and was nearly an hour long. The gal giving the narrative was awesome and we learned a lot about Beaufort as well as seeing some amazing historic homes. The horse, Jack, was a highlight of the tour and full of personality!
Some lunch on the boat and Tom and I defrosted both our beverage fridge and the main fridge. Never take your frost free refrigerators for granted! It was a messy, wet job, but now both units are clean and ready to go again. Kathy and I walked downtown and went into every store there was while Tom washed the boat and got the salt off again. Lots of fine things to look at, but not much you need on a boat! Think of all the money we saved…
It was our turn to do dinner for the four of us, so we had orange crushes for our cocktails and I made Mongolian Chicken. It was yummy, but boy, did it make a lot of dirty dishes! I only washed half of those bad boys tonight and am saving the rest for the morning. We walked downtown to an ice cream store for dessert and Madison got to go too. I can’t believe it stays light until 8 pm now.
We will be moving to a different marina tomorrow (actually the one where Jim Williams has his new boat) but won’t leave here till after 11 am. The others marina is south of here about 2 miles, so it will be a quick trip - more of a nuisance than anything, but this marina is full up and couldn’t give us any more nights of dockage. We plan to go to Savannah by car on Wednesday, so we wanted to remain in the area where it is a 45 minute drive.
