Beaufort SC
We have left the state of Georgia! Despite a sleepless night worrying about getting off the dock in the strong current, our departure went smoothly, thanks to the skill of Captain Tom! We did delay leaving till about 9 am so we could time it with an ebb tide and not have as much current to contend with and it paid off. It meant a slightly later arrival here in Beaufort (BYOO-fort), but it was a lovely day on the water and we drove from up on the flying bridge for at least half the trip.
When we docked here at the Beaufort City docks Jim Williams and Diane were here to greet us and grab our lines along with the dockhands. It certainly was good to see Jim again. He and Diane came onto Orion for a cold drink and after a nice shower, we were ready to go grab a bite to eat along with Steve and Kathy. The marina is right downtown and everything is so walkable…. There is a great city park next to the marina with hanging gliders around 3 sides of it where you can sit and swing and look out over the water. Might have to try those out…
Still really strong currents here and still windy…. Ugh! But…. We are on the inside of the long transient dock, so the rocking of the boat is less than if we were on the outside. Grateful for small victories!
