Venice

Short travel day today after getting some fuel and a pump-out in Sarasota this morning.  I thought there would be less traffic on the GICW on Monday, but it was still pretty busy - just less reckless driving… We arrived at the Crow’s Nest Marina shortly after noon and it is absolutely beautiful here.  In fact, over lunch at the restaurant here we decided to stay another night!  The water is amazing blue green, very much like in the Caribbean and there are beaches and small islands all around us.  We might take the dinghy down tomorrow and do some exploring.

When I went into the office to ask about staying another night, the guy told me that if I had come in literally 3 minutes earlier, he would have told me no.  But, he had just had a cancellation for a 72 foot boat, so we lucked out!

We spent the afternoon walking out to the point along the inlet from the gulf and watched all the boats come in and out of the Gulf of Mexico.  Madison got to come along and when we stopped for ice cream she got a free pup cup, so she was thrilled. Dogs are not allowed on the beach, so tomorrow we will have to take our stroll along the water without her.

We had a spaghetti dinner on the boat, then walked down to the inlet with our wine to watch the sunset.  It’s a thing people do here, like in Key West, and I was blown away by the crowds! We will go earlier tomorrow night and get a better spot!

My friend, Debi, from high school lives here and she is going to pick Tom and I up in the morning so we can go out for breakfast.  That should be such fun!

Good night from Venice. 😴
