Touring

We had a full day of being tourists in Charleston today and I have the sore knees and feet to prove it.  So. Much. Walking. 😲 There is a water taxi stop at our marina and the four of us were there for the first run over to downtown. There we used our handy dandy map and proceeded to cover much of the historic district on foot before finding an oyster bar and stopping for lunch.  On the way we saw the famous pineapple fountain, battery row with the huge mansions, famous rainbow row (pastel painted row houses), lots of churches a famous alley and lots of charming scenery.

After a delicious lunch of oysters and shrimp we walked the entire length of the city market, which was a series of vendor booths hawing local wares, and then booked a horse and carriage tour of old Charleston.  The ride covered much of the same territory that we had covered on foot, but also had some new sights and the history narrative was very informative.  What a beautiful city this is! I took dozens of pictures and couldn’t possible post them all here, so this is just a sample….

We hiked back to the water taxi stand in and boarded for the ride back across the water to our marina, hiked back to the boat (not a short walk…) and rested a bit before enjoying a nice dinner on Orion with Steve and Kathy. Tomorrow - Fort Sumter!
