Middle of Nowhere
We had probably the most pleasant trip on the water today that we have had in a month. The ferocious winds have finally calmed down so we weren’t getting blown around all day! On the flip side it was beastly hot today with humidity to match, so we were drenched by the time we got the boat tied up.
We wanted to find a place to stop halfway between Beaufort and Charleston and there simply are no towns to stay in, so you either anchor out or stay tied up to the dock at the B&B Seafood Company on Mosquito Creek. Sound delightful? It’s actually not bad - we have no electricity hook up so we have been running our generator but Madison has a dock (aging and in need of repair) to get off the boat onto and she is a happy camper. Steve and Kathy are rafted up to us so we could be dockside and the cost for each of us to stay here for the night is $20. We literally are in the middle of nowhere and the seafood distributor is the only thing here besides an Oyster Co. A huge shrimp boat pulled in while we were eating dinner and we could see folks putting the shrimp into coolers in the store. Our plan is to buy some fresh shrimp before we pull out tomorrow and eat well in Charleston!
It is Kathy’s birthday today, so we had a nice dinner on our boat. Tom grilled a small pork tenderloin, we had baked potatoes and a salad. We even had a cake!
We won’t leave here til around 11 am tomorrow for the 6 hour trip to Charleston. We have to arrive at the marina there at slack tide which is noon or 6 pm. We decided to take our time and enjoy the morning before we leave. The marina we’re staying at for 3 nights in Charleston is the largest marina in South Carolina. Expensive, but amenities galore and a free trolley to downtown Charleston. I’m sure we’ll find plenty to do there for 2 days.
