McClellanville
What a nice cruising day and beautiful dockage. I need more days like this and I’ll start to relax… We left Charleston mid-morning in horrible strong winds again and it was only 53 degrees to boot! Fortunately it warmed up gradually on the ICW and the winds died down too. We are docked in McClellanville SC at the Leland Oil Co on a long face dock. This one is really nice, though, and is a floating dock with power, so life is good. There is a seafood store a short walk away where we purchased crab dip, shrimp dip and pickled shrimp. Steve and Kathy also got some fresh shrimp and she promises to make a yummy dinner with it tomorrow night. I can’t believe the fleet of shrimp boats they have here - about 20 boats - picture below. We are getting spoiled with seafood as fresh as this, that’s for sure.
After securing our food purchases on the boat the four of us set out on a walking tour of the town. It is so picturesque it could be a painting or a jigsaw puzzle… We walked by beautiful southern homes, an old Episcopal church that we could go into, a 1000 year old live oak tree and tree-lined streets which were shady and cool. Unfortunately, the well-known seafood restaurant here is closed on Monday, so we did not get to try it out…
Just before dinner another looper couple walked by and stopped to introduce themselves. They are anchored out at the mouth of the creek, but will be going to Georgetown tomorrow as well, so we plan to connect with them for looper docktails. They seem really nice and have a doggie pal for Madison named Bella.
