Today was one of those days where you think “this is such a great life”. We pulled out of Algonac Marina at first light and the first thing we encountered was 2 freighters coming from opposite directions and they were going to meet right where we had to merge onto the river. And because you can’t argue with something that big, we had to slow down and wait until they passed and we could slide in behind the northbound one. They travel so fast he was soon out of sight and we had an uneventful cruise on the St. Clair River and Lake Huron. We did meet another freighter who passed in the opposite direction and I’m always amazed at how big they are. I have posted the video - this was a Great Lakes freighter, so not quite as big as the ocean going freighters…( Sorry, cannot get it to load today)
We drove the boat from up on the fly bridge since the weather was perfect and enjoyed watching all of the beautiful homes along the river. The current was strong against us, but we didn’t go any slower than 4.2 knots, so it was all good. Going under the Blue Water Bridge into Lake Huron was a little stressful due to the strong current there, but Tom knew about that and was prepared. Lake Huron is the most beautiful blue green color! I don’t know why, but it is a little like being in the Caribbean. Weird…
We are in a protected marina right on the lake and the town is adorable. We took Madison for a long walk and Tom and I walked into town and ate an early dinner at the Cadillac Inn and Restaurant. It is the grey building - it has been there since the town was formed and used to be someone’s home. Original floors and details inside make it fun to walk around. It is a boutique hotel and the restaurant and bar are open to the public, so we went on recommendations we received last night.
To finish the evening Al came over and we had wine up on the fly bridge. We are suppose to get rain during the night into the morning, so we will decide whether to travel tomorrow or stay here based on the weather system. Yay - I get to sleep in!
