The New Plan
Tom bought a car on line two days ago and Steve and Kathy dropped him off at the dealership yesterday to pick it up in Selma NC. It’s a brave new world of car buying and it worked out well for us. We are the proud owners of a 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan and my only disappointment is that it is black, but for many people that is not a negative. We literally had to choose from what they had on the lot and this one rolled off the delivery truck 30 minutes before Tom negotiated the deal with the salesman. We knew that we would be wanting to buy a vehicle pretty soon because we are so close to completing our loop, and now that our plans have been slightly altered, it was time.
We have elected to have Dave fix our. Bow pulpit here in New Bern, but he can’t do it until July/early August, so we will modify the next 6 weeks to make this possible. We have arranged to stay here at the New Bern Grand Marina until June 6th and then we will head north to finish our loop. Steve and Kathy are still on their boat and we will spend Memorial Day weekend with them and when they leave next week for doctor appointments in Richmond, we will drive up to Baltimore to spend 5 days with Dan and his family. Charlotte is in her school musical on June 1st and has a vocal solo, so we couldn’t bear to miss that!
After we cross our wake in Chesapeake VA, we will turn around and head back down here to a different marina and take the animals and head to Orlando where we will house and dog sit for Mark and Kerry while they are on vacation. Shouldn’t be too hard to take since we will have a brand new pool to enjoy at their house! Once the boat repair is done we will probably head back up to the Norfolk area and leave the boat there until it sells while we make the rounds visiting kids and relatives. I think Johanna’s wedding September will be here before we know it…
We spent some time yesterday and today driving around looking at different neighborhoods in the New Bern area as possible permanent places to live and still want to explore the Washington/Greenville area too. We spent about 3 hours, no joke, today moving our boat and undocking and docking it in different marina locations. We needed a pump out, so took it over to the pump out dock and then tied up in a slip they said we could use which would be more protected than the transient dock we were on. After wrestling the boat into the slip and getting it secured, we discovered that the slip was too short and we couldn’t exit the boat easily from the stern cockpit. We also hung out over the dock and out into the fairway which was not good. I called the Dockmaster to let him know we needed to move back to our original spot only to find out that another boat had moved into that spot while we were gone from it. There wasn’t enough space to tie up at that long dock, so we were told to use a slip in the main area of the marina which that boat had just vacated. After much rearranging of fenders, lines and the power cord we are in the slip and the location is wonderful. We are one dock over from Steve and Kathy and a very short walk to the grass for Madison, which makes here very happy!
Tonight we went over to Steve and Kathy’s for docktails and we ordered pizza since neither of us felt like cooking. We stayed way too late, but had such a fun time. Tomorrow morning there is a marina breakfast at a place 2 blocks from here and we were also invited, so we will start our day out there.
