Savannah

We had a nice relaxing morning at anchor this morning and then untied from Steve and Kathy and we all made our way north on the ICW to just outside of downtown Savannah. This marina is right on the river which is part of the ICW and they have ferocious currents here as well as a 9 foot tide!! 😳 We docked at the fuel dock on a side tie for a pump out and almost couldn’t get off the dock, even with thrusters to move to our overnight tie. Tom did the fanciest maneuvering  I have ever witnessed and slid us in between two other boats on the dock without hitting a darn thing!!  LOL! The bad thing is - we aren’t sure how we are going to get off the dock and out of here with other boats so close.  The marina had the looper behind us move his boat way back to give us room, and when we returned to the boat tonight, there is a small power boat docked 3 feet off our stern.  Sort of defeats the purpose of moving the bigger boat… We will see what the current and wind is doing in the morning before making a decision about trying to leave with the small boat so close.  Always something….

Dewey had a much better day today and is back to his old self.  We only crossed one inlet and the boat didn’t do much rolling so he was a happy guy.  The weather was so nice that we drove the boat from the flying bridge for the first 3 hours and Kathy took a picture of us up there just to prove that we drove from there at least once….

This marina has a loaner car, so we got that at 5 pm and drove the 20 minutes to downtown Savannah and the River Walk. We walked along the lower level of the old cotton exchange warehouses and had dinner at  The Cotton Exchange restaurant and the inside is pretty much the way it was back in the day. More walking and people watching before heading back to the marina.  We had originally booked 3 nights here so we could spend lots of time seeing Savannah, but the water pump situation caused us to lose the 2nd and 3rd nights.  So, we planned a 2 night stay in SC after our next stop where we can rent a car and come back to Savannah for a whole day. Looping is all about rolling with the punches and finding a way to make it work…

We leave Georgia tomorrow and enter South Carolina - I will be a little sad to say good-bye to the endless miles of marsh grasses and winding rivers, but there will be new sights to see!
