Gibraltor

We have discovered that the biggest stressor about “looping” is finding marina accommodations where we want them when we want them.  Marinas have full time boaters who rent the slips and have a certain number of “transient” slips available, and that number can vary from 4 to 80.  Canada is closed to boaters and a huge number of people are looping this year, so there is a competition of sorts for the available marina slips on any given day.  Because of our delays for electronics, sick cat and failed thruster motor, we actually are in between two big groups of loopers.  There are dozens in front of us and a big group behind us too, so you would think that we wouldn’t have any trouble booking spaces.  Wrong…. We can only travel so far in a day and I spent 2 hours last night trying to book marinas for the rest of this week

and the weekend.  Bottom line - we found space at a boat yard in Gibraltor - tied up at the wall in the well
where they haul out the boats.  Literally have a crane outside my window.  But - I don’t care! It’s a safe place, enabled us to cross the remainder of Lake Erie and sets us up to run up Michigan into Lake Huron.  We are still traveling with our friend, Al, so he is tied up in front of us. We have stayed at some lovely places along the way and this is, well, Motel 6…. LOL! The people who run the boatyard couldn’t be
nicer and it only cost $43 for tonight.  A real deal…

We crossed the last piece of Lake Erie today and it was a wonderful travel day - now we go up the Detroit River to Lake St. Clair. The highlight of the evening was taking Madison for a very long walk around town and stumbling onto a Dairy Queen! We happily ordered blizzards and the woman behind us fell in love with Madison and asked us if she could buy her a pup cup.  What a lucky dog!
