Misadventures
When you decide to make a boat your home you soon realize that there are little items of repair or upkeep that are never-ending - just like a dirt home. We woke up to high winds, grey skies and sporadic rain showers, so it seemed like a perfect day to knock off some of those things. We started the day off with an early morning walk to West Marine about a mile or so from the marina, and although the weather was less than perfect, it was a good morning for a walk.
After a quick lunch Tom tackled the re-screening of the windows on the starboard side of the boat. We removed the frames, ripped out the old screening and he started washing the frames off on the dock. Before I could get outside to start cleaning the window tracks themselves, I heard a knocking on the window and Tom was trying to tell me something. No other way to tell this other than to just go ahead and say that one of the three frames slipped through his fingers - right down through one of the cracks between dock boards and disappeared "like a coin in a slot machine" according to Tom. He was beside himself with frustration especially since he said he knew that was a possibility and was being so careful. We quickly determined that the water was about 12 ft. deep and we didn't have anything long enough to go fishing with, so.... we called a diver and had to hire him to go down under the dock and retrieve the window frame. He came so quickly and couldn't have been nicer! Thank you Keith!
All's well that ends well and we now have brand new screens on the windows. I had a little mishap myself involving items overboard on Sunday afternoon when we docked, which I promised Tom I would confess to. I still don't understand how it happened, but I dropped 2 fender clips over the side of the boat - one on each side! I can't even tell you how it happened, but it was like slow motion watching them slip out of my hands and slide down the rope and splash into the dark water. We now have replacements on order from Amazon...
